Your holiday starts at the glacial Lake Bled, where you will begin the ascent for your high mountain route through the beautiful Triglav National Park, which stretches across the eastern part of the Julian Alps. This tour will surprise you with beautiful crystal clear waters, alpine meadows and colourful wooded trails, at heights of up to 2,500 metres. You will walk under the summit of Triglav, slovenia's highest peak, the Valley of the Lakes, the Karawanken limestone mountain range and Lake Zeleno Jezero.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Bled
We recommend flying to Ljubljana Airport, where you can take a taxi or private transport to Bled. Another option will be to take a bus to Ljubljana, where you take the connection to Bled.

Once in Bled, you will find the only island in Slovenia and one of the natural jewels in this country, located at the foot of the Julian Alps.

Day 2 - Bled to Pokljuka 9 miles I 14 km
After a briefing with the local provider, we will transfer you from Bled to the green plateau of Pokljuka, located in the most forested part of the Triglav National Park, where today's walk will start. During winter, it is an appropriate place for skiing and sledding, and in the summer it is a perfect area for walking and cycling.

The final route to Pokljuka will be through the Karawanken limestone mountain range, which stretches between the Slovenian and Austrian border, and the unspoilt Bohinj Valley.

Day 3 - Pokljuka to Planika Hut 7,5 miles I 12 km
Today, before you start your walk, you must hand over your luggage to the local provider for safekeeping at the head office until day 6, when you arrive in Bohinj, where it will be returned to you. For this reason, you should carry a backpack with everything you need for each day.

Afterwards, you will start an ascent through one of Slovenia's greatest treasures, Triglav National Park, declared in 1924 as the largest protected area in the country, with a total of 84,805 hectares. The end of this first climbing stretch will be at the Vodnikov Dom mountain hut, a traditional place where walkers stop to rest and feed.

Day 4 - Planika Hut to Koča Pri Triglavskih Jezerih Hut 7 miles I 11,5 km
Your destination today will be the Koca Pri Triglavskih Jezerih refuge, the walk will take you up to 2,358 metres in altitude, by the Hribarice Pass.

You will discover unique views and typical alpine flora and fauna on the way. You will also get to know some of the seven lakes of Triglav National Park, including Lake Zeleno Jezero (Green Lake), a name given thanks to the high algae content that give it its colour.

Day 5 - Koča Pri Triglavskih Jezerih Hut to Komna Hut 5 miles I 8 km
Head to a swampy area amid the Pohorje forests, home to the amazing Black Lake, which looks black because of organic waste that settles at its bottom, but actually has crystal clear water.

The path will continue through the pine forests of the Komna Plateau to the Komna Hut.

Day 6 - Komma Hut to Lake Bohinj 9,3 miles I 15 km
Walk along the wooded hillside on the way to the Savica Waterfall, with crystal clear waters and stunning beauty. You can get close up and touch the turquoise blue water of the waterfall through the stairs around it. This waterfall inspired the famous Slovenian poet, France Preseren, to write his poem "Baptism in the Savica".

Continue to the famous Bohinj, Slovenia's largest lake, formed during the Ice Age.

Travel & transfers

To start your holiday, we recommend flying to Ljubljana Airport, to which several low-cost airlines fly. From there you can take a taxi or private transfer to Bled. Another option will be to take a bus to Ljubljana, where you take the connection on to Bled.

At the end of the route, you can head to Ljubljana Airport, taking a bus, taxi or private transfer.
