Jalki is where today's circular walk begins and ends. Your first stop is at the village of Melanes, one of the oldest settlements on Naxos. Its name refers to its black colour, in honour of the dark soil that predominates in the valley and which is ideal for olive groves and fruit trees.

Then, about two kilometres from Melanes, you will find the ancient Kalamitsia Monastery, also known as the Jesuit Palace. It was built in 1673 and was established, for many years, as the summer resort of the Jesuit monks.

You will finish the day by your own transfer by bus or taxi from Jalki to Naxos.

You will continue to the Monastery of Fotodoti, one of the oldest and most significant castles of Naxos, due to its historical and religious importance.
