Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival at Les Houches
From Geneva Airport, you can get to Les Houches by bus or train. Once you are at your hotel, you can make the most of the day to get to know the city.

Chalet Hotel du Bois is a 3-star hotel located on the main street of Les Houches, just 5 minutes from the main cable cars and ski slopes, Merlet Park and Mont Blanc walking trails.

Its rooms feature satellite TV, a modern private bathroom with toiletries, and the balconies offer views of Mont Blanc in the French Alps. It features an indoor and outdoor pool and Caprice restaurant, serving traditional French dishes and Savoie specialties.

Day 2 - Les Houches to Les Contamines 10,5 miles I 17 km
Start the Tour du Mont Blanc route by climbing from the Chamonix Valley in Les Houches to Bellevue, or by taking the Bellevue cable car for a short 10-minute ride.

In Bellevue you can venture to take on the challenging route to Chalet de Miage, through the town of Dome du Goeter and Aiguille de Bionnassay.

This peaceful chalet-style family hotel is close to the ski slopes and Lake Pontet, where you can swim.

Day 3 - Les Contamines to Les Chapieux 12 miles I 19 km
For the first 5 km you will walk along the valley floor to the chapel of Notre Dame de la Gorge or, if you wish, you can take a bus for this stretch.

Continue on the road turning and climbing steadily up Chemin Roman, through the Contamines-Montjoie Nature Reserve, and heading towards the distant mountain pass of Col du Bonhomme.

As you ascend, the views of the lofty peaks become increasingly rugged. You will then quickly reach the landscapes of the Col du Bonhomme (2,329 metres). You will walk for another hour through rugged and rocky terrain, where you will see the Col de la Croix du Bonhomme.

If you wish, you can climb the Col des Fours (2,665 metres) and then descend steeply to Les Chapieux.

Les Chapieux: if there is no accommodation available at Les Chapieux, you will have your accommodation at Bourg-Saint-Maurice. We will make the corresponding arrangements so that you can have the necessary transfers between the towns.

Refuge Mottets

Extensively renovated in 2010, Refuge Mottets offers accommodations in original agricultural buildings, dormitories and private rooms.

Day 4 - Les Chapieux to Courmayeur 12 miles I 20 km
Today you will leave France and head towards Italy, departing from the Col de la Seigne mountain pass, which is 750 metres above the Refuge des Mottets. It will seem as if you can touch the steep south side of the Mont Blanc massif, made up of jagged peaks, hanging glaciers and deep waterfalls - the spectacular views will amaze you!

You will descend along a path lined with alpine meadows and cross the Elisabetta hut towards the Val Veny valley.

You will walk to the village of Visaille, and from there, you will have to take a bus on your own to get to Courmayeur.

Located just minutes from Courmayeur's pedestrian centre, the family-friendly Hotel Bouton d'Or overlooks the Chetif and Checrouit Mountains and enjoys an Alpine style in the Aosta Valley.

Day 5 - Courmayeur to Rifugio Bonatti 7,5 miles I 12 km
Start the day with a challenging climb from Courmayeur and continue around Mont de la Saxe, with views of the Mont Blanc massif and the Grandes Jorasses.

Afterwards, continue your way through the Val Ferret, one of the valleys that make up the great Aosta Valley until you reach the Rifugio Bonatti, named after the famous mountaineer Walter Bonatti and considered one of the best refuges in the Alps.

Courmayeur: If there is no accommodation available in Rifugio Bonatti, you will be accommodated here.

Rifugio Bonatti

This hut owes its name to the famous mountaineer Walter Bonatti and is considered one of the best huts in the Alps. The hut is in a unique location with incredible views. Both the chalet and the rooms are beautiful. You will be able to enjoy a wide variety of dishes to eat.

Day 6 - Rigugio Bonatti to La Fouly 12 miles I 19 km
The day starts with a pleasant walk from Rifugio Bonatti, before descending to Val Ferret, where you will start climbing the Grand Col Ferret.

When you reach the top of the Grand Col Ferret, it will open the way to Switzerland. You will then descend through cattle landscapes, green meadows and stunning alpine views to La Fouly, a typical alpine village with a cosy atmosphere full of flowers and the smell of wood.

Hotel Edelweiss is located 1.1 km from Mont Dolent and in an area where you can ski, thanks to its direct access to the slopes.

Day 7 - La Fouly to Champex 9 miles I 15 km
Walking through the Val Ferret, with its calm forests, is an experience that comforts you and fills you with energy.

On your way to Champex, you will pass some of the quietest trails of the Mont Blanc massif and the village of Les Arches, a picture-postcard place.

Day 8 - Champex to Trient 9,6 miles I 15,5 km
The official Alp Bovine route takes you through pine and larch forests, along with views of the Rhone Valley.

You will advance to the Trient valley and then on to the village, located in the Valais region of Switzerland. This is a popular place to visit for skiing and other alpine sports.

Day 9 - Trient to Argentière 8,6 miles I 13,9 km
From Trient, you ascend to the French border at Col de Balme. From there, the entire Mont Blanc massif extends; Chamonix Valley, the summit of Mont Blanc, the Aiguilles, Mer de Glace and Argentiere glaciers.

The route will continue through Col des Posettes and Aiguillette des Posettes, to the Chamonix Valley in Tre le Champ.

From Tre le Champ, you can walk 1.5 km to your hotel in Argentiere or take the bus service at no cost.

This 3-star hotel is located in the center of Argentière. It is a beautiful hotel with comfortable rooms, spacious bathrooms and a nice picturesque balcony overlooking the mountains, where there are cable cars and skiing during the winter. Its restaurant specializes in traditional Savoyard cuisine.

Day 10 - Argentière to Chamonix 8,8 miles I 14,1 km
From your accommodation, head towards the Aiguillette de Argentière trail to the Grand Balcon Sud de Aiguilles Rouges.

Continue ascending to Lac Blanc, where you can have lunch. On the descent, you will pass by the cable car station in Le Flegere.

Taking the Balcon Sud route you cross the mountainside, until you reach Planpraz, where you can take the cable car to the centre of Chamonix.

Day 11 - Enjoy your day in the surroundings of Chamonix 7,8 miles I 12,5 km
Start the day by taking the cable car on your own to return to Planpraz, where you will start your last day's tour of Mont Blanc.

You will descend via Lac du Brévent, a beautiful lake at the foot of Le Brévent peak, pass through Bel Lachat, to Les Houches, from where you will return to Chamonix by bus on your own.

Is luggage transfer included? What are the luggage requirements?
Absolutely! Each traveller has included 1 piece of luggage that we will transfer between your accommodations. It's important that this piece of luggage meets the following criterias:
  • Maximum weight of 33 lbs (15 kg).
  • Must be only 1 piece of luggage without any attachments or accessories.
  • Should not contain valuables, fragile items, food or medications.
  • Must be correctly identified (booking reference of your trip and the full name of the trip holder).

What should my physical preparation be?
During this walk you will find considerable ascents and descents, so it is advisable that you be an experienced walker. If you don't currently lead an active lifestyle, we suggest walking through mountainous terrain and doing cardiovascular activity, for at least for 6 months before the trip.
How far in advance should I book my trip?
Being a very popular walking trail, one which is available for a short period, we suggest you book as soon as you decide to make this trip.
What walking elements should I bring to my trip?
