Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Newcastle
The starting point of this fascinating tour will be Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, a city in the north-east of England where culture and history are breathed. Its inhabitants are known as Geordies, who have their own dialect. In ancient times it was one of the main forts in the Roman Empire, and today it is an important business and science centre.

Day 2 - Newcastle to Heddon 15,7 miles | 25 km
Today, your walk will be along the River Tyne, a coastal tributary in the north-east of England that begins as two rivers, the South Tyne and the North Tyne.  

You'll follow your journey to Heddon-on-the-Wall, a charming village in Northumberland, located on Hadrian's Wall.

Day 3 - Heddon to Chollerford 16 miles | 26 km
On this day, as you go along, you'll find Hadrian's Wall. You will also walk through Vindolanda, one of the Roman forts that guarded the wall, then along Harlow Hill, a small village located on the wall line and where a military road also passes through. 

Later, you'll follow a path parallel to the well-known B6318 road, which runs from Heddon-on-the-Wall to Greenhead.

Day 4 - Chollerford to Gilsland 21 miles | 33,7 km
Today will undoubtedly be a demanding but very pleasant day that will give you one of the most beautiful experiences during this trip. You will start ascending over desolate territory, but well accompanied by the nature of this area of England. 

You will pass through a part of Hadrian's Wall that is quite well-conserved and in addition, you will have the opportunity to observe castles and ancient monuments. 

Admire the incredible scenery and endless greenery that will guide you to your accommodation.

If there is no availability at Gilsland, we will accommodate you at Greenhead. This means that your route would be 3,2 km shorter on this day.

Day 5 - Glisland to Carlisle 19,5 miles | 31,5 km
Leave your accommodation behind and begin your walk as you ascend and descend through hills that will take you to Carlisle. 

During the tour, you will enjoy some of the last sections of the wall, since from then on they are not conserved very well. 

However, the stunning views will take your breath away as you end this journey.  

Once in Carlisle, you will appreciate the castle, which is in very good condition, and you can also contemplate centuries-old antiquities. 

On the way to your next accommodation, you will continue to enjoy the beautiful and unmissable panoramas on this journey.

Day 6 - Carlisle to Bowness-on-Solway 14,9 miles | 23,9 km
On the last day of the tour you will pass through Burgh by Sands, a beautiful and charming town near Carlisle, also well known for being the place where King Edward I died. Along the way, you can enjoy great views, while listening to the song of the great variety of birds that are found in this region.  

Later, you will arrive at Bowness-on-Solway, a village with only 100 houses, located on the south side of the Solway Firth estuary that separates England from Scotland.

To get to the starting point on this walking holiday, you can take a flight to Newcastle Airport. It can also be reached by train or bus.

When you've finished your trip, from Bowness-On-Solway, you can take a bus (except on Sundays) to Carlisle and from there head to the city from where you'll go back to your place of origin.
