Day 1 - Arrival in Montefalco
The first day begins in Montefalco, known as the ‘balcony of Umbria’ for its spectacular location atop a hill, with views stretching over vineyards and plains as far as the eye can see.
You can explore its charming historic centre, accessed through five ancient medieval gates that lead to the main square. Stroll through its cobbled streets and immerse yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of this 12th-century village, steeped in history and tradition.
Once you arrive in Italy, whether from Umbria airport or any of Rome's airports, you will need to travel to Foligno. Upon arrival, you will have a transfer included from Foligno to Montefalco, where you will spend the night.

Day 2 - Montefalco to Bevagna 6,7 miles | 10,8 km
From Montefalco, you will begin your route by descending into the valley along quiet country roads surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and, in season, vast fields of sunflowers. The agricultural landscape of Umbria will accompany you for much of the journey, with rolling hills and traditional farms dotting the horizon.
As you continue, you will follow the riverside path of the Clitunno River for a stretch, a serene setting offering pleasant shade and a change of pace before reaching Bevagna, a walled medieval gem that retains its charm intact.
In Bevagna, you can explore must-see sites such as the Romanesque churches of San Michele Arcangelo and San Silvestro, located opposite the picturesque Piazza Silvestri. You can also visit the Museo di Bevagna, with its remarkable Roman mosaic depicting a marine theme, or the charming Francesco Torti Theatre. This small town is one of Umbria's best-kept secrets, with a rich artistic heritage and an authenticity that permeates every corner.

Day 3 - Bevagna to Spello 9,5 miles | 15,3 km
After a hearty breakfast, you will leave Bevagna behind and begin your walk to Spello, crossing fertile farmland and enjoying the typical Umbrian countryside. The trail runs alongside the river for a stretch, offering a peaceful walk, before heading inland along rural paths through vineyards and olive groves. In the distance, the Apennines loom on the horizon, and soon you will be able to make out the silhouettes of Spello and Assisi perched on the hills.
Once in Spello, you will have time to explore this charming village built on the slopes of Mount Subasio. It is known for its vibrant atmosphere and for the flower festival, known as Infiorata, which has been held every year for over a century and a half. Stroll through its cobbled streets, discover its many medieval churches and don't miss the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre in the northern part of the village.

If you choose the easier option, you will walk alongside the valley, surrounded by gentle hills. It is a comfortable route, ideal for enjoying the landscape at a leisurely pace. If you prefer a more intense experience, you can follow the trail that climbs the hillside near Monte Civitelle. Although more demanding, this route will reward you with panoramic views from the rocky promontories, with Assisi peeking out in the distance on its own stone spur.
As you approach, the unmistakable silhouette of Assisi dominates the horizon. This city, imbued with the spirit of St. Francis, invites you to discover its treasures at your own pace. You can visit the Basilica of St. Francis, explore its churches, narrow streets and viewpoints.

If you arrive in Rome, either from Fiumicino or Ciampino, you can easily reach Rome's central station, Roma Termini. From Fiumicino, take the Leonardo Express train, which takes about 30 minutes, and from Ciampino, take the SIT Bus Shuttle. From Roma Termini, there are frequent trains to Foligno. To return to your city of origin from Assisi, you can take a bus or taxi from the historic centre to the train station, located about 3 km away. From there, Assisi is connected by train to Perugia and Rome. For more information, please visit the Trenitalia website.

Is luggage transfer included? What are the luggage requirements?
Absolutely! Each traveller has included 1 piece of luggage that we will transfer between your accommodations. It's important that this piece of luggage meets the following criterias:
- Maximum weight of 45 lbs (20 kg).
- Maximum dimensions 65x50x40 cm.
- Must be only 1 piece of luggage without any attachments or accessories.
- Should not contain valuables, fragile items, food or medications.

What is the best time of year to do this trip?
Springtime and the months of April, May, and June are absolutely enchanting. Autumn is a perfect time of year thanks to its mild temperatures, making September and October unmissable. July and August can get very hot, so we recommend starting your walks early to avoid the heat of the day. Please note that before Easter and at the end of October, some local shops and restaurants may have reduced opening hours or be closed for the winter.

What should my physical preparation be?
This route is of medium-low difficulty, making it ideal for people looking for 4 to 6 hours of walking per day with climbs that can be steeper and longer. You do not need to have hiking experience, however, it is recommended that you are in good physical condition and in good health. Some sections of the walk have uneven terrain, including rocky areas.
