Day 1 - Arrival in Alberobello

The first day begins in Alberobello, a picturesque town located in the Itria Valley and declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you can explore its famous limestone cottages with whitewashed walls and cone-shaped roofs, also popularly known as trullis.

Day 2 - Walk along Valle d'Itria Greenway 13 km | 8 miles

In the morning, you will have an included transfer that will take you to the start of the trail, near Coreggia. From there, you will walk through green fields, olive groves and stone walls until you reach the Valle d'Itria Greenway, an ancient aqueduct transformed into a trail. The limestone valleys will accompany you along the way, constantly surprising you with their imposing landscapes.

After passing San Marco, you will leave the aqueduct behind and continue along small rural roads that will take you to Locorotondo, considered one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. Explore its old town with white houses and pointed roofs, enjoy its terrace with views of Murgia, and immerse yourself in the local cuisine by tasting one of its wines, such as Salice Salentino.

Day 3 - Loop walk via Martina Franca 15,5 km | 9,6 miles

You can enjoy your day by taking a circular route to Martina Franca. You will start by heading to the valley, walking along rural paths flanked by stone walls, until you reach the majestic Baroque city of Martina Franca. Be surprised by its architectural details, such as the wrought-iron balconies, monuments and churches. In Piazza Plebiscito, don't miss the impressive facade of the Basilica of San Martino.

Located 450 metres above sea level, on a hill in the eastern plain of Murgia, this city with white streets and noble palaces invites you to calmly explore in the middle of your journey.

If you prefer to have a more relaxed day, you can also choose to explore the charming village of Locorotondo and its surroundings. Let yourself be carried away by its calm pace of life, stroll through its streets, and savor its typical dishes.

Day 4 - Locorotondo to Ostuni 14 km | 8,7 miles

At the start of your route, you will have an included transfer to Cisternino. You will begin with a combination of narrow rural paths, forests and sea views. The characteristic landscape of Puglia will surprise you, with intensely green olive groves and the typical trulli houses.

As you progress, you will see Ostuni in the distance, known as “the White City”. Having left behind the Itria Valley, we approach the sea, which is just 8 kilometres away.

The views from Ostuni are spectacular, with 360-degree panoramas that encompass both the countryside and the Adriatic Sea. You also can’t miss its defensive walls and whitewashed houses that wind up the hillside, crowned by its imposing Gothic cathedral.

Day 5 - Walk on the Trajan Way to Ostuni 10,5 km | 6,5 miles

After an included transfer, you will begin your route along the Via Trajana and the Apulian section of the Via Francigena. As you enter the peaceful "strada communale" in the Coastal Regional Park, you will discover small remains of the seventh "Cardo" of Emperor Trajan, an ancient Roman road of great historical significance. Along the route, you will find informational panels that will tell you the fascinating history of the area.

Along the way, you will see olive groves that have witnessed the passage of Roman traders and medieval pilgrims. You will also come across ancient underground olive presses, making the region's deep connection to olive oil palpable. The dirt paths wind uphill toward the slopes, beneath the white walls of Ostuni.

If you prefer, you can opt to explore the charming streets of Ostuni at your own pace, do some shopping, or visit the main tourist attractions in the area.

Day 6 - Enjoy your day in Lecce

After a delicious breakfast, take the train on your own behalf to Lecce. Once there, enjoy your day in this Baroque jewel built with limestone.

Lecce, with over 2,500 years of history, retains traditions such as olive oil production, pottery and winemaking. Visit the Piazza del Duomo, surrounded by charming buildings, and the Basilica of Santa Croce, famous for its detailed Baroque facade. Stroll through the old town and enjoy the local cuisine in its restaurants while observing the bustle of the evening "passagiata".

Remember that today you must take your luggage with you when taking the train from Ostuni to Lecce.

Day 7 - Enjoy your day in Otranto 10,8 km | 6,7 miles

Today, you have the liberty of choosing how to spend your day. You can stay in Lecce, enjoy a local wine and a focaccia with burrata, or visit Otranto and explore its streets at your own pace.

If you choose to visit Otranto, you can take a route that will lead you through the old town, the coast and the countryside, passing by the Bauxite della Cava lake, famous for its ochre-colored rocks. Like Lecce, Otranto is located in Salento, in southern Italy, and is the easternmost city in the country. On clear days, you can even see Albania and the island of Corfu. Otranto was an important port during Roman times, and today you can explore its old town and medieval castle.

To reach Otranto, at the start of the day, you will need to take a bus on your own behalf from Lecce to Otranto, a coastal city full of history. If you travel before June 18, please note that the bus will not be available. However, as an alternative, you can take the train to Otranto, with two transport changes.

Absolutely! Each traveller has included 1 piece of luggage that we will transfer between your accommodations. It's important that this piece of luggage meets the following criterias:

Must be only 1 piece of luggage without any attachments or accessories.
Should not contain valuables, fragile items, food or medications.

How far in advance should I book my trip?

We recommend that you book as soon as you are sure about your dates, as accommodation can fill up very quickly in this area.

What is the best time of year to do this trip?

The spring season and the months of April, May and June are absolutely lovely. Autumn is a perfect time of year, as the landscape is formed by a palette of gold and red colours, so September and October are unmissable. July and August can become very hot, so we recommend that you start your walks early to avoid the heat of the day. The towns and cities you will visit are always busy, so you can take your holiday at the time you prefer best.

What should my physical preparation be?

This route is of medium-low difficulty, making it ideal for people looking for between 4 and 6 hours of walking a day, and with ascents and descents of up to 700 m. You do not need to have experience in walking, however, it is advisable that you are in good physical condition and in good health. Some sections of the walk have uneven terrain so it will be necessary to climb.
