Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Brixham
Begin your journey in Brixham, a picturesque fishing village in South Devon where life revolves around the sea. Its bustling harbour, filled with colourful boats and the scent of salt, reflects centuries of seafaring tradition and retains the authentic spirit of the English coast.

Explore the Golden Hind, the impressive replica of Sir Francis Drake's ship, or climb up to Berry Head Nature Reserve, where cliffs rise above the English Channel and the lighthouse has guided sailors for generations. Enjoy the freshest seafood, served in taverns by the quayside, and the welcoming atmosphere of its cafés and pubs.

Day 2 - Brixham to Torquay 7,8 miles I 12,6 km
You will leave the picturesque port of Brixham behind and begin your journey towards the elegant coastal town of Torquay. The trail starts by skirting the coast, with open views of the English Channel and the red sandstone cliffs that characterise this part of the Devon coastline.

As you progress, the landscape alternates between urban areas and natural stretches, where the paths narrow alongside the cliffs and the sound of the sea accompanies your every step. The reddish tones of the rock contrast with the intense blue of the water, creating a typically Devonian setting.

Soon you will reach Torquay, known as the “English Riviera” for its mild climate, palm trees and elegant seafront promenade. Here you can relax by the sea, explore the coastal gardens or enjoy dinner overlooking the harbour before resting and preparing for the next stage of your journey.

You will leave Torquay behind and embark on a varied and contrasting day's walk towards Shaldon. As you leave the town, the surroundings become more rural and the path begins to wind its way through open fields and leafy woods where birdsong replaces the hustle and bustle of the coast.

The path becomes more challenging, with steep ascents and descents that reward your efforts with spectacular views over Torbay and the sea stretching to the horizon. This wilder, more rugged section reveals the natural beauty of the Devonian coastline in its purest form.

Teignmouth: If there is no availability in Shaldon, you will be accommodated in this town. You can cross the River Teign on a small ferry to reach Teignmouth.
