Day 1 - Arrival in Newcastle
The starting point of this fascinating tour will be Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, a city in the north-east of England where culture and history are breathed. Its inhabitants are known as Geordies, who have their own dialect. In ancient times it was one of the main forts in the Roman Empire, and today it is an important business and science centre.

Today's walk will be along the River Tyne, a coastal tributary in northeast England, which begins as two rivers, the South Tyne and the North Tyne.

On this day you will see Harlow Hill, a small hamlet just over the line of Hadrian's Wall, through which a military road also passes. You'll pass the site of the old Milecastle 16, a Roman fort that served as a guard post on the wall.

You will walk through Northumberland National Park and ascend to Winshields Crags, which at 345 metres is the highest point on the route. We recommend that you have your camera on hand, because from there you will have some incredible panoramas.
Then you will continue along a well-preserved stretch of Hadrian's Wall until you reach Gilsland, a small town on the border between Cumbria and Northumberland.
