Day 1 - Arrival at Osterode am Harz
You can easily reach the historic Osterode am Harz by taking a train from Berlin or Hanover.
This city is a very busy place because of lovers of nature and walking, and because it starts renowned routes such as the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg and the Harzer BaudenSteig trails.

Day 2 - Osterode am Harz to Altenau 12,4 miles I 20 km
Start a walk that will take you along Hundsche Weg, an ancient trail used for mining and Upper Harz Water Management, an industrial water system listed as a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Site.
The tour ends in the village of Sperberhaier Dammhaus. Once there, you will have to take the bus to Altenau on your own.

Day 3 - Altenau to Schierke 14 miles I 22,5 km
You start your day with a self-drive bus transfer from Altenau to Sperberhaier Dammhaus.
The walk starts in the Dammhaus Forest until you reach one of Harz's best trails, Magdeburger Weg. There, you will encounter the Nabetal Waterfall and Krone-Blick.
The trail will continue to the top of Mount Brocken, at an altitude of 1,142 metres. You will finish the day with an included train transfer from Mount Brocken to Schierke.

Day 4 - Schierke to Königshütte 10,5 miles I 17 km
You will start the day with an included train transfer from Schierke to Mount Brocken.
Upon arrival, the route takes you through Drei Annen Hohne, where you can see the famous protected oak tree, a World War II memorial.
Continuing the walk, you will reach Königshütter, a 16-metre high artificial waterfall, created in 1994.
After enjoying the waterfall, you will continue on your way to Königshütte, where you will spend the night.

Day 5 - Königshütte to Neuwerk 7,5 miles I 12 km
Your walk around the village of Rubeland will show you the traces of chalk extraction which many years ago was a great activity within the region. You can't miss some of Germany's oldest caves, Baumannshehle and Hermannshehle.

Walk along one of the world's longest suspension bridges, across the Rapp Bode Dam. Continue through beautiful meadows and forests to Altenbrak, where you can take a visit to the Altenbrak Local History Museum.

Day 7 - Treseburg to Quedlinburg 7,5 miles I 12 km
This last hike will make you fully understand why The Harz Witches Trail has inspired so many stories and legends of fairies and witches.
Immerse yourself in all the mysticism of this region as you travel along the stunning streams and magical valleys. You will finish your journey in Rosstrappe and from here you will take the cable car to Thale.
Once in Thale, you will have to travel by bus to the Unesco World Heritage Site of Quedlinburg on your own.
