Camino de Santiago Portugues from Tui in 9 days

Explore the charming Tui, one of the seven capitals in the Old Kingdom of Galicia, which was declared an artistic historical collection in 1967. Explore its streets, the medieval old town, the Diocesan Museum and the Cathedral of Santa Maria, which dominates the panoramic views of the city.

Start this first stage along the River Louro, not without first visiting the Romanesque temple of San Bartolome de Rebordans. Cross the industrial park or deviate through the vineyards to the da Veiga medieval bridge.

Take the forest trail to Ponte das Febres over San Simon Creek, where San Telmo, patron saint of sailors, became ill, and died in 1251. 

Cross A Magdalena and the large stone bridge over the Louro to Orbenlle. Arriving in O Porrino, visit the Town Hall, the Fonte do Cristo, the Madrid Metro monument and the Botica Nova.

Walk along several paths between oaks, pines, and eucalyptus trees, streams and the famous Galician "corredoiras": rural narrow deep paths, which run between walls or other elevations over the terrain.

Climb up to the Santiaguino Chapel and descend to Redondela, an important fishing village located in the heart of the Vigo estuary, known as the "town of viaducts".

Admire the panoramic view of the Vigo estuary, the Parish Church of Cedeira, the Convent of Vilavella and the Museum of Meirande. Arriving in Arcade, the mouth of the River Verdugo and the oyster capital of Galicia, visit the Church of Santiago de Arcade from the late 12th century.

Cross Ponte Sampaio, one of the most important bridges in Galicia on a historical level: a monumental stone bridge on the River Verdugo on which a battle was fought that led to the withdrawal of French troops in Galicia during the War of Independence. 

Cross the parishes of Figueirido and Santa Comba de Bertola to the Chapel of Santa Marta and then take the road to Pontevedra. Walk through the cobblestoned streets and squares of one of the most beautiful cities in Galicia.

Pontevedra, in addition to Santiago de Compostela, has a great deal of heritage features: The Ruins of Santo Domingo, the Royal Basilica of Santa Maria la Mayor and the symbol of the city, the Church of the Pilgrim.

Cross the River Lerez and Ponte do Burgo to the Alba Marshes Observatory, a wetland of 80 hectares and home to a variety of plant and bird species. 

Advance to Briallos, deviate and visit the Barosa Waterfalls, a natural place with a beautiful drop of 60 metres and 14 mills along the waterfalls. You'll arrive in Caldas de Reis, served by the Umia and Bermana rivers, and one of the most important thermal villas in Galicia that makes it, since prehistory, a place often visited for the medical properties of its waters.

If you wish, take the "Water Route", a circular path of 9 km where you can see waterfalls and natural spaces bathed by water, or visit the Church of Santa Maria de Caldas, Santo Tomas and that of San Andres de Caesar, the Botanical Park and Garden, which has been declared as a Picturesque Park and Historical Garden.

Overnight in Caldas de Reis

When you leave Caldas de Reis you will enter the Bermana Valley, ascending to Santa Marina de Carracedo. Walk through the Galician countryside amid secluded houses and watermills to the Valga council area and its amazing Mount Albor.

Cross the bridge of Roman origin and reach Padron, where according to Jacobean legend, the disciples landed with the body of Santiago the Apostle in the year 42 or 44 A.D. and, today, famous for its delicious peppers.

Before continuing your journey, visit the beautiful Collegiate Church in Iria Flavia, the first cathedral in Galicia and in whose cemetery, under an olive tree, is the tomb of Camilo Jose Cela. 

Along the way you will find Xirimbao, a beautiful natural park on the banks of the River Ulla, where you can have a picnic or have a dip.

Overnight in Parada de Francos

You'll begin the last stage of the Cano Portugues by reliving the risky journey and odyssey of the disciples with the body of Santiago from landing to burial on the Stellae Campus. 

Walk through the municipalities of Teo and Ames until you reach the old quarter in Santiago de Compostela, a World Heritage Site. Go to the Plaza de Obradoiro square where you will find the majestic cathedral, and celebrate that you have reached the finishing line!
