Day 1 - Arrival in Ourense
Orense or Ourense (In Galician) is a city located at the foot of a valley, crossed by the Minho, Barbana and Lonia rivers. Visit the Cathedral and walk through the cobblestoned streets in the historic quarter.
It is known as the City of Burgas (or thermal springs), so don't forget to relax at one of them, such as the As Burgas Baths in O Tinteiro, or in A Chavasqueira and Outariz on the outskirts of the city.

Day 3 - Cea to Casarellos 5,6 miles | 9 km
On this short journey, the Via de la Plata takes us along forest tracks and passes through the small rural villages of Cotelas, Pinor and Arenteria, where you can visit the Chapel of the Pilgrim.
The last section of this stage runs parallel to the River Arenteiro, from O Reino until we reach our destination today, Casarellos. The Clock Tower in the centre of the Plaza Mayor is of special interest, built at the beginning of the 20th century.

Day 4 - Casarellos to Lalin 16,5 miles | 26,6 km
Today's route takes us through rural, green and mountainous landscapes, typically Galician. This stage is somewhat longer, with moderate but frequent slopes. We will pass through a wide variety of rural parishes and small isolated places, surrounded by nature.
After just over 7 km, in Castro Dozon you can visit the Church of San Salvador, which was built in limestone.
Once we arrive at our destination for today, Lalin, it is worth visiting the Town Hall, the work of the architect Luis Moreno Mansilla.

Day 5 - Lalin to Silleda 10,4 miles | 16,8 km
Today, we will leave the town of Lalin by Rua da Ponte. We'll go straight down the road until we find an industrial estate. Once past this business park, a beautiful path awaits us through the Trasfontao Forest.
Today's route does not present many slopes, so we will move along with ease. Before we reach the centre of Silleda, we will pass next to another industrial area. When it is behind us, we will have reached today's destination.

Day 6 - Silleda to Ponte Ulla 12,8 miles | 20,6 km
Leave Silleda and head, by the River Ulla, to the famous Rias Baixas. Descend through the streams in the Valle de Rio, which is said to have brought the body of Santiago the Apostle to the parish of Santa Maria de Iria Flavia, in the province of A Coruna.
Reach the town of Ponte Ulla, cross the Ulla Bridge over the river, where the Camino de Invierno coincides with this stretch of the Camino Sanabres. Visit the Romanesque Church of Mary Magdalene and the Gundian Bridge, a very high railway pass erected in the second half of the 18th century.

Before leaving Ponte Ulla, admire the views of the railway viaductand continue until you reach Galegos.
Cross small villages linked by eucalyptus and pine paths to Rubial. Go to A Susana, then to the area of Marrozos, take the dirt tracks to the Chapel of Santa Lucia.
Cross the river, go up the royal road to Pineiro and you will be in the area of Angrois. Mount Pico Sacro and the legends that relate it to Santiago the Apostle will announce your proximity to the final destination. When you arrive in the Sar district, you can see the towers of the Cathedral.
Follow Rua do Sar and visit the Collegiate Church of Sar, one of Santiago's least-known jewels. Climb Castrondouro and reach the Mazarelos Arch, the only one of the seven gates of the wall around Santiago that is still preserved.

What should my physical preparation be?
The route is catalogued with a medium-low difficulty level, where you will travel agricultural or earthy trails with demanding ascents and descents, on daily walks of approximately 23 km per day.
For this reason, it is important that you are in good physical condition and have an active lifestyle. If not, we suggest preparing yourself with walks and/or cardio exercises approximately 2 months before starting the trip.

What is the best time of year to complete this route?
